The Griffith University Paradise Regatta

This Saturday the 3rd Annual Griffith University Paradise Regatta hits the water of the Nerang River and some of the nations most spectacular rowing and Dragon Boat Crews are set to do battle.

For the public the day starts at Circle on Cavill with an opening ceremony and rowing machine challenge between 7:30 and 9:00am.

The Regatta commences at the Gold Coast Arts Centre at 11:00am with a race every 10 minutes until 3:40pm. 

It will be a great social day out with the Gold Coast Arts Centre putting on the best of their award winning catering with freshly cooked food and a full licensed bar facility.

Adding to the atmosphere will be both live jazz music and a DJ.

Highlights of the day include the Griffith University Boat Race with the local Griffith University taking on Brisbane's University of Queensland and the BIG ONE - the inaugural Australia New Zealand Boat Race which pits the two nations best male athletes head to head on 2km the Buds Beach to GC Arts Centre course. 

FOX SPORTS will be covering the races and filming via helicopter on the day. 

"Everyone seems to be really looking forward to it. Its looking like a very special day with a broadcast in November to match." Event Manager David Houston said. 

The Paradise Regatta course from Buds Beach to the Gold Coast Arts Centre is flanked by nearly 1000 water facing balconys so selecting the right ones for the Fox Sports Broadcast was going to be a challenge.

Fortunately we found 2 that proved excellent and with the kind support of Panorama Tower and Sentinel we are all set to capture the race like never before.

The home team Griffith University are finishing up their final preparations for what is shaping up to be a great race with arch rival the University of Queensland.

The Griffith University Boat Race is an open challenge to all crews from across Australia to come and race on the canals of the Gold Coast.

Now in its 3rd year the race is going to be televised in 2009 with a view to attracting crews from all over Australia and New Zealand in 2010. 

The Griffith University Paradise Regatta is designed to raise funds for GUBC as it moves towards its major goal of a full time coach. 

The floating advertisements that will be seen across Australia are complete and ready to bob up and down on the big day - Saturday October 10th.
