"THEY WANTED TO TRAIN FOR THE PARADISE REGATTA!!" St Hildas Head Coach Ben Vining yelled from his tinny to the Griffith University Rowing Team - and that was way back in April!
After an enjoyable weekend in 2008 Parent and daughter alike at St Hildas Girls School have taken to the water to get the jump on the expanding competition.
Corporate Women's 8+ Competitor and St Hilda's Mum - Terri sponsored her Coolco Air Conditioning Team at the 2008 Griffith University Paradise Regatta said "We enjoyed the challenge last year and had an absolute blast."
"The new shorter race with heats and semis will be fun. As parents we go to so many regattas, so its great to be able to jump in and compete at one makes a great day for everyone" Terri's crew will be targeting the Corporate Women's 8+ category after silver in 2008.
Head coach Mr Ben Vining also highlighted how his school rowing program cleverly plans to profit from the Griffith University Paradise Regatta:
"We have been able to attract more corporate crews and thanks to the TV exposure and raise more corporate rowing money without having to run a corporate regatta ourselves. I love it! Its been a real blessing for a busy program coordinator like me."
But the parents are not alone in their trained focus. The St Hildas VIII have been laying down the kms.
"As a program we are building. Having a televised race to offer the girls has been a real key incentive to getting quality numbers " Ben concluded.
